Staying ahead of the curve.

A leading pen-tip manufacturer
Essem is a leading manufacturer of ballpoint pen tips, producing over 16 million tips a day across production facilities in Thailand and India and exporting to more than 50 countries.
We are privately owned and run, with no outside interests. Over more than 40 years, we have built a legacy in the writing industry for quality, consistency, and service. Essem is ISO 9001:2015 certified and manufactures to tolerances of 3–4 microns.
We leverage the very best Swiss rotary transfer machines — over 100 of them — and raw materials sourced from leading vendors in Japan and Germany. All production is made to order, customized to each customer's parameters, across more than 700 unique varieties of tip.
Staying ahead
No single grip, ink type, or writing width suits everyone. Writing styles vary between cultures, countries, and individuals, so pen tips need to be as varied as the people who use them.
Some people write with a heavy, blunt script and need a wide tip; others have a lighter style, so that the ink barely touches the page. Whatever the requirement, Essem has the technology and the experience to meet it.
We track the most advanced technologies from around the world and follow trends in the pen market closely, so that you, our customer, stay ahead of the curve.
Building relationships through customization
We know that no single pen can appeal to every person. That is why we work closely with our customers to understand exactly what they need.
We begin by conceptualizing your market needs and requirements. The primary focus is to design, develop, and produce a tip that perfectly complements your selected ink — its external and internal design, engineering, shape, and performance built to your specific requirements. The design is then finalized, samples produced, and feedback collected until the product is honed to exacting specifications.
We provide technical guidance, help resolve any issues that arise, and host customer visits to our factories. The goal is a long-term working relationship built around your business.
Technology, equipment, and processes
Spindles running at more than 50,000 revolutions a minute. The turning and drilling of 2.30mm thick stainless steel alloy blanks. A 0.40mm diameter tungsten carbide ball being embedded in a nickel silver housing. A worker examining that housing magnified 100 times under a high-powered stereo microscope. This is a typical day at an Essem factory.
We combine highly precise automated equipment, advanced technology, and sophisticated manufacturing and quality-control systems, all of which we improve continuously.
This flexible, modular approach, from design through to manufacturing, provides a customized, end-to-end solution that reduces cost and assures the quality of both our products and our service.
Teamwork
Much of what we do depends on our ability to work as a team, learning from and growing with one another. Many of our employees have been with Essem for over 20 years, gaining deep knowledge of the manufacturing process and rare insight into a highly technical industry.
Training and cross-training help us stay flexible and respond quickly to the changing needs of our customers. When a customer chooses to work with Essem, they are not just selecting a brand, but a distinct way of working.
Precision engineering and research
At Essem, performing well today is not enough. We keep building our skills and knowledge so that we remain the preferred choice for our customers.
Our research takes us across the globe, seeking out new ideas, innovations, and knowledge that keep us ahead of the competition. It is a standing challenge to our most creative minds: never settle for the current way of doing things, and keep finding better techniques and processes.
CSR policy
Essem maintains a corporate social responsibility policy, reviewed each financial year, covering our commitments to our employees, our communities, and responsible manufacturing practices.
